Yvon and Miguel Duhamel will join us on May 20 as Grand Marshals at Riding Into History. We could not have hoped for better GMs; celebrating Japanese motorcycles, we have two men who spent nearly forty years racing, and winning, on Japanese equipment. Yvon began racing early, starting on a BSA Gold Star. By 1968 he was on a Yamaha, finishing second in that year’s Daytona 200 he scored the first ever two-stroke podium at the big track. Riding Into History will be at multiple locations this upcoming weekend.  Be sure to check us out at the Cars and Coffee Saturday, March 11, 2017, 9am-1pm at Amelia Island.  There is no fee for this Saturday event. This is a fun family friendly event.  Then on Sunday, we will be attending the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance at the motorcycle showing green.  Make sure to stop by and say hello at either event!  Hope to see you there!

It was great to run into old friends this past weekend at the Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show. The weather was beautiful and Clare Frost and Clive Taylor put on a spectacular motorcycle show! The Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show will be held in that south Florida town on January 28th. We are big fans of this show; a great field of entries, nice location, and a good cause. Kawasaki Auction Bike Delivered!

Wayne, the winner of the silent auction motorcycle from Riding Into History took delivery of his  1977 Kawasaki KZ1000 last week.  Chris Alley from Ace Vintage Motorcycle Specialists, delivered the Kawasaki to Phiil Ridgdill. Wayne picked it up from Phil, the original and only owner of the bike.  Wayne, Chris and Phil spent the afternoon talking about Phil’s racing, the Kawasaki and the work performed at Ace to bring it back to life. Dear Volunteers, Exhibitors and Guests, It is with much regret and great sadness I must let you all know that our planned Grand Marshall, Malcolm Smith, will be unable to attend this years event.  Unfortunately he has fallen ill and is unable to make the trip from his home in California at this time.  While we are all disappointed he is not attending, our primary concern is that he regains his health and recovers from this set back.  We appreciate everyone’s understanding and hope you join us in extending prayers and positive thoughts for Mr. Smith’s healing and improved health.  …

The mid-1970’s saw the birth of Superbike racing. The Japanese companies were building ever more powerful four cylinder bikes to compete against the BMW and Ducati twins. Kawasaki introduced the KZ1000 as their weapon of choice. With some assistance from Kawasaki US, the St. Augustine dealer went racing. Phil Ridgdill was their rider of choice. He rode many regional races, including Gainesville where they used the drag strip and return road to make a temporary track.
